David has over 40 years\u2019 experience in film making. We were also pleased to give a warm welcome to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Iain Philpott<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> the films cameraman who also attended the evening with David.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-21616 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/surreyborder.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/DAVID-FAIRHEAD-THE-LONG-JOURNEY-HOME-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"261\" height=\"348\" srcset=\"https:\/\/surreyborder.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/DAVID-FAIRHEAD-THE-LONG-JOURNEY-HOME-03.jpg 480w, https:\/\/surreyborder.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/DAVID-FAIRHEAD-THE-LONG-JOURNEY-HOME-03-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 261px) 100vw, 261px\" \/><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">David explained that the<\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b> \u2019The Long Journey Home\u2019 <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">is a true story about two families who were united in marriage and divided by war and how the families dealt with this. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The story was inspired by the house in which David lives. After moving into his house in 2002 David became inquisitive about the previous owners, he made enquires with his neighbours and was given the name of a previous owner Betty Adams. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">In 1938 Betty left the house to marry a German called Rudolf Jebens, sadly Rudolf dies and in 1946 a struggling Betty together with her daughter Jutta returned from Germany to live in the house she had grown up in.<\/span><\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-21618 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/surreyborder.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/THE-LONG-JOURNEY-HOME-ACTORS-BETTY-AND-RUDOLF.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"374\" height=\"559\" srcset=\"https:\/\/surreyborder.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/THE-LONG-JOURNEY-HOME-ACTORS-BETTY-AND-RUDOLF.jpg 680w, https:\/\/surreyborder.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/THE-LONG-JOURNEY-HOME-ACTORS-BETTY-AND-RUDOLF-201x300.jpg 201w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px\" \/><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> Many years later Jutta made an emotional return visit to her former home, and she began to unfurl the story of her life, this together with information from Jutta\u2019s brother Dieter and Davids neighbours enabled the story to evolve.
