Members Competition 2017<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The annual Member\u2019s Competition held on 1st December 2017.
Twelve entries were received from club members.<\/p>

The Competition judges were all from Solent Movie Makers, and the club is grateful for their excellent judging and critique.<\/p>

Chairman Jeremy Holder, maker of several winning documentaries,
Mike Power, a professional photography specialist, and
Paul Vernon, a keen photographer who also makes Western films.<\/p>

They all agreed that the Surrey Border Movie Makers entries this year were of a very high standard.<\/p>

Peter says;\u00a0 <\/span>“I shot some <\/span>footage of the sun rising with frost on <\/span>the ground and that mist hanging low.<\/span>I had no tripod, so everything <\/span>was handheld<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

On a wet Sunday afternoon, I rediscovered <\/span>the footage and decided to do something <\/span>with it. <\/span><\/p>

I started searching for music and <\/span>after a long time found just what I wanted, <\/span>a<\/span> beautiful<\/span> orchestral<\/span> piece,<\/span> which<\/span> I <\/span>bought rights to. <\/span><\/p>

It was then a matter of <\/span>selecting the shots and editing them to fit.”<\/span><\/p>

Alan Butcher said; ‘The idea came about when travelling home one day past the Hogs Back Brewery in Tongham. Opposite was an empty field, which was being prepared for planting.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The field preparation was being undertaken by the Hogs Back Brewery in a project to reintroduce a white bine hop historically produced in the area 100 years or more ago.<\/p>

I approached the CEO who kindly gave me permission to film the project.<\/p>

The filming was to take nearly a year from the initial planting, the installation of the hop growing frame, and harvesting of the hop flower ready for the drying process ready to produce a special Hogs Back beer.<\/p>

To produce my movie I used a Sony 1080 NX5E camera, a smart phone, along with accessories such as an on-camera two mic
stereo setup, a SteadyCam vest and arm, portable on-camera and off-camera LED
lighting, and a backup Zoom H6 audio recorder. All edited on an iMac running Final Cut Pro.<\/p>

This was Kathy\u2019s and my first\u00a0 attempt at a major filming exercise, and were pleased to be awarded \u2018Best Documentary\u2019 and \u2018Best Camera Work\u2019.<\/p><\/div> <\/div>\n\n
