The Judges Comments

Colin Lewis ''The First' - Judges Comments

“An unusual concept. It is an interesting idea to use existing family videos to create a fictional story.”
“A kid’s party made into a horror genre film, consistent in genre with an impactful introduction but quite a lot of SFX pasted onto what was in essence a kid’s party. Fun idea with a macabre sense of mischief.”

Jim Reed, The OddBods - 'Interview with April Powers'

“A very quirky and entertaining mock interview that explores a rich comedic vein. The idea of having a naïve minion in the diplomatic service inadvertently triggering world crises is a brilliant one.”

“A witty two-header where an incompetent civil servant is interviewed about their career”.  Note: The film was a two-header, edited together from single shots. Only one of the cast was present at any shoot!

Awarded: The Ron Clements Award for Creativity

Jim Reed "The Iron Bridge"

“A cleverly edited examination of the impact and legacy of the industrial revolution that shared a great deal of thought-provoking observations.”
“An expositional documentary that opposed the current climate change argument. I felt it needed to entertain the counter argument; however, in terms of how it was putting its point across, it was nicely done with a smooth edit.”

Awarded: The Penny Johnson Trophy for Best Editing

Philip Morley "Only Lyon"

For a ‘holiday video’ this packs in a lot of information on the city and so it feels a bit like a combination of a documentary and a ‘what we did on our vacation’ piece.”
“A travel documentary made with care and attention to detail. An enjoyable, light, and humorous voiceover takes us through the weekend trip.”

Awarded:
The Arthur English Memorial Trophy for Photography
The Best Holiday Movie
The Sir Peter Holden Trophy for Best Use of Commentary
