LET’S MAKE A LIVE MUSIC VIDEO
The Surrey Border Movie Makers meeting held in March was a little different, as it involved the filming of a live band to create a short music video. The event was very expertly organised and directed by club members Brian O’Connell and Philip Morley.
A selection of five songs were pre-recorded by the band with selected verses being chosen for filming. It involved a lot of equipment and setting up. Andrew Hillary who recently joined the club has vast knowledge and experience with lighting, together with assistance from Marcus Henning, Cameron Gilroy and Ric Swift he soon had a suitable backdrop and lighting in place, then following Brian O’Connell’s concise work plan the band then set up followed by the placement of multiple cameras which were going to be used.
Cameron Gilroy took control of the camera on the Jib, Dave Kershaw was operating the camera on the Dolly, Jack Visser was using his Black Magic Camera on a Gimbal, Dick Grainger was able to take shots with a long lens on his Black Magic camera and Philip Morley had a mini DJI mounted over the drum kit, he was also using both his iPhone 14 and 15.
Felix Whitehead, Tim Stannard and Gillian Gatland were in charge of Audio Playback and the essential Clapper Board. Club Chairman Mike Sanders took charge of downloading the footage from the multiple camera cards onto a laptop throughout the evening to enable the various editing to take place at a later date.
The evening was a great success with many new members getting involved with hands on experiences of recording and filming under the guidance of the experienced film makers in the club.
Gordon Sutton and Peter Frost were both filming the whole evening which will produce independent ’Making Of’ films which will be shown at a future club meeting.
