Live comedy film made on club night
A short film was made live on the night at the Surrey Border Movie Makers August meeting where one new club member who joined on the night and two visitors (potential new members) were present, they joined the other 30 or so members who attended the evening. The short comedy film was Produced and Directed by club member Paul Ashworth, it had seven actors and involved the operation of three cameras. Paul had created an eleven page script which centred around a film club who were watching a famous scene from the blockbuster ’Casablanca’, Tony Goodearl played the part of Rick Bain (Humphrey Bogart)’ the take on the ‘Casablanca’ based film had already previously been created by Philip Morley and Brian O’Connell and was a successful experiment in nighttime filming, it ran in a loop as a backdrop on the big screen whilst Paul created his comedy film around it. Paul Ashworth is in the filming group the Pathfinders and due to his meticulous attention to detail the filming was easily completed during the second half of the meeting.
Two other great films made by Paul Ashworth were also shown during the evening,
the first film featured Pauls visit to an exhibition of David Bowie artefacts called ‘The Visit – V & A East’ here you can get up surprisingly close to some of the costumes and guitars etc. the second film ‘Your First Glider Flight’
created at Lasham Gliding Airfield was as the title indicates a documentary about what an exciting first time flight in a glider.
The next meeting is on Friday 4th September and the very popular Documentary Competition entries will be shown.
